About Langham Place

The tower is comprised of a series of precast concrete piers between which are located significantly recessed windows. The ten story limestone podium, capped by a carved, reductive cornice, reinforces the spatial definition of the street while its tri-partite vertical layering and rhythmic masonry piers establish a scale and proportion sympathetic to the neighboring historic buildings.

The unique profile of the window slopes out from the sill to 76 cm (30 in) above the floor and then slopes back in to the head condition. The design acknowledges the unique condition of a tall building, allowing one to view down to the street below. The lower window panel is an in-swing operable hopper which, when open, provides a natural fall protection barrier. Because the operable window protrudes in under the sloping upper panel, the window sheds water naturally even in the open position. These faceted window assemblies accentuate views from the tower to the street and animate the façade to create a unique profile as they wrap the corners of the building at the residential levels.
