Function

A single-function tall building is defined as one where 85% or more of its usable floor area is dedicated to a single usage. Thus a building with 90% office floor area would be said to be an "office" building, irrespective of other minor functions it may also contain.

A mixed-use tall building contains two or more functions (or uses), where each of the functions occupy a significant proportion of the tower's total space. Support areas such as car parks and mechanical plant space do not constitute mixed-use functions. Functions are denoted on CTBUH "Tallest Building" lists in descending order, e.g., "hotel/office" indicates hotel function above office function.

About Bella Sky Tower 1

Bella Sky Towers lean 15 degrees to each side. In addition, the top 10 stories shift horizontally, and the bottom 14 stories have a further horizontal displacement. They rise from a common base and are connected at the top floor by a skybridge. Their angled design allows for nearly all 814 hotel rooms to have views over the neighboring nature preserve, city center and the adjacent new urban area anchored by Copenhagen’s major Convention Center.

Specially developed software was utilized to create digital 3D models of all elements of the building to make sure the structures could withstand the enormous pressure from the leaning towers. The façade also resulted in a number of construction challenges, requiring a team of specialized “rappellers” to assemble the puzzle of pre-fabricated aluminum elements. Comprised of less than 50% glass, the façade still allows for floor-to-ceiling windows in each room while providing natural shading and insulation. The façade patterning, which is formed by diagonal and vertical lines, enhances the building’s aesthetics by reflecting the turning of the towers.
