Function

A single-function tall building is defined as one where 85% or more of its usable floor area is dedicated to a single usage. Thus a building with 90% office floor area would be said to be an "office" building, irrespective of other minor functions it may also contain.

A mixed-use tall building contains two or more functions (or uses), where each of the functions occupy a significant proportion of the tower's total space. Support areas such as car parks and mechanical plant space do not constitute mixed-use functions. Functions are denoted on CTBUH "Tallest Building" lists in descending order, e.g., "hotel/office" indicates hotel function above office function.

About Guangxi China Resources Tower

Located in the fast-growing city of Nanning, the Guangxi China Resources Tower tower acts as both the literal and symbolic anchor for a larger master plan development that includes retail, residential, and commercial projects along Minzu Avenue; the primary east-west artery for the city’s future expansion. The project is composed of a compound massing that represents a marriage of programmatic efficiency with sculptural expression, providing an identifiable silhouette for the city as it aggressively grows to the east from its historical center. The tower will establish a new standard for sustainability and sophisticated detail as it attracts international attention.

Inspired by the crystalline forms that represent the strength and timeless beauty commonly associated with the region; the tower’s architectural expression employs faceted and tapering geometries that establish a prominent identity along the skyline. Designed to LEED Gold standards, the building is encased in floor-to-ceiling performance glass with integrated ceramic patterns that enhance energy performance without sacrificing natural light or views. The tower’s base features a large south facing lobby and landscaped plaza that offer internal access to local subway traffic, the adjacent retail complex, and the new luxury hotel. A monumental sky terrace affords views of the surrounding mountains; while the tapering form culminates with an illuminated beacon of light visible in all directions.

The interconnected podium and basement levels form a cohesive mixed-use development that provides the ability to share mechanical systems, parking, and underground service roads for the entire complex. The tower itself will utilize the highest quality systems and materials, emphasizing longevity and performance as fundamental to the overall building design. Through the integration of these elements, a vision of a sustainable urban future is realized through the design of the Guangxi China Resources Tower.
