The structural system of this 50-story residential high-rise adopts a braced mega-frame on the east, west, and south elevations which is positioned outside the main envelope of the building. The slender design tapers to the top in an aesthetic chisel-like shape to protect views and shading, and an innovative integrated damping system uses a collection of 28 viscous dampers in asymmetrical configurations that reduce sway while leading to no loss in floor area.
A 1970s educational building at the University of Auckland gets a second life through the creative design and engineering of reusing the existing structural frame. The retrofit provided a significant carbon saving, utilized an advanced seismic analysis to transform and improve the building’s earthquake rating, provided the space for a new Atrium by strengthening the podium, and opened up a new thoroughfare on the City Campus by linking adjacent streets
