About Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas
The Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas contains a hotel and branded condominium tower on top of a multi-use base with ballroom and retail functions. The project is prominently sited on Las Vegas Boulevard situated within the new CityCenter mixed-use development. This unique context affords the project two distinct opportunities: on a macro level, the building acts as a gateway into Las Vegas; on the micro level, the building conveys a sense of seclusion for hotel guests, creating a city within a city.
The façade is a layered interlocking motif of vertical aluminum panels and high-performance, low-E glass with ceramic horizontal frit. From the interior, the frit provides various levels of transparency, allowing for open, naturally illuminated spaces in public areas and shaded, screened areas where more privacy is desired. To reduce solar heat gain and to conserve energy, heavily insulated spandrel panels are used to increase the percentage of opaque cladding area. The façade system accounts for about 9% of the building’s total energy savings.
